The Role
James Walker is looking to recruit an Apprentice Electrical Maintenance Technician to join the Engineering Department at its Cockermouth Manufacturing Business Unit this September!
The Apprentice Electrical Maintenance Technician will support the Electrical Maintenance Team in ensuring the safe, reliable and efficient operation of electrical systems and production equipment across the site. Working alongside experienced technicians, the apprentice will assist with fault finding, diagnosis and repair of electrical, control and automation systems, respond to breakdowns, carry out planned maintenance and contribute to continuous improvement activities aimed at enhancing plant reliability.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the electrical maintenance team with plant breakdowns during shift.
- Support to diagnose and rectify faults across:
- Electrical distribution systems (LV)
- Motors, drives and motor control centres
- Instrumentation and sensors
- Machine safety circuits
- Assist the electrical maintenance team to restore plant to service safely and efficiently following failures.
- Assist in carrying out PLC interrogation and diagnostics to support fault finding and root cause identification.
- Support in executing planned maintenance tasks in line with the CMMS (Agility).
- Identify deteriorating assets and escalate reliability risks.
- Work strictly in accordance with electrical safety and compliance.
- Support cross-discipline working with mechanical and production teams.
- Contribute to shift handovers, breakdown reports, and defect escalation.
- Maintain discipline in documentation, tagging, and equipment labelling.
Preferred Skill & Experience
- Previous work experience or coursework in engineering or related fields.
- Microsoft Office Tools Familiarity.
Essential Skill & Experience
- Basic understanding of electrical engineering principles.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication skills.
- Good IT skills.
