Job Description

South Walney School are looking to recruit a Teaching Assistant Apprentice to join the team this September, do you have good communication skills, are you a good team player and are you adaptable? This could be the role for you, keep reading below! 
 
Within this vacancy you will be providing classroom support including classroom set up and organising tasks, as well as providing one-on-one or small group support to students.
 
Brief overview of the vacancy
  • Communication - Liaising with teachers, parents and other staff members to provide updates on student progress, discuss concerns and collaborate on strategies for supporting learning 
  • Classroom Support - Assistant with classroom set up and organisation 
  • Student Assistance - Providing one-on-one or small group support to students who need extra help with learning activities or assignments 
  • Behaviour management - Assistant in maintaining discipline and managing behaviour within the classroom, including implementing strategies for positive reinforcement
  • Instructional Support - Supporting teachers in delivering lessons by preparing materials, supervising activities and providing feedback to pupils 
  • Inclusion Support - Working with students with special educational needs to ensure they can fully participate in classroom activities and receive appropriate support 
Skills and Personal Qualities
  • Communication skills - Clear communication is crucial for explaining concepts to pupils and collaborating effectively with teachers and other staff members 
  • Patience - Working with students requires a great deal of patience especially when explaining concepts or dealing with challenging behaviour 
  • Empathy - Understanding the needs and struggles of students helps in providing appropriate support and encouragement
  • Adaptability - Being flexible and adaptable is important in responding to the diverse needs of students and adjusting teaching strategies as necessary 
  • Teamwork - Collaborating with teachers, other teaching assistants and support staff is essential for creating a positive learning environment
  • Organisational skills - Managing classroom materials, keeping records, and assistant with administrative tasks
  • Subject Knowledge - While not always required at the apprentice level, having a basic understanding of the subjects being taught can be beneficial
  • Respect for Diversity - Recognising and the cultural, linguistic and individual differences among students is important for creating an inclusive classroom environment
  • Positive Attitude - Maintaining a positive and enthusiastic attitude towards teaching and learning can inspire students and contribute to a supportive classroom atmosphere
  • Self-Reflection -  Being able to reflect on ones own practice, identify areas for improvement, and seek feedback from more experiences colleagues is key for professional growth 
  • Ethical Conduct - Upholding professional ethics and maintaining confidentiality are essential for building trust with students, colleagues and parents 
Minimum GCSE grade C/4 or equivalent in English and Maths 
 
Working Hours - Monday to Friday 8:50 until 16:30
