Job Description

DSD Construction Ltd are looking to recruit a Level 3 Business Administration Apprentice to join their team in Carlisle as soon as possible! 
 
DSD Construction are looking for an organised, motivated and enthusiastic individual to join their team. 

Working closely with the Procurement Manager and wider purchasing team, you will support the day-to-day purchasing process and work alongside the Finance team and other departments across the business. This is a varied role that provides an excellent opportunity to develop experience in procurement, purchasing, supplier management and administration.

Key Responsibilities

As part of the role, your duties will include:

  • Assist with identifying and evaluating potential suppliers, obtaining quotations and supporting negotiations on terms and prices for goods and services.
  • Create and process purchase orders accurately and efficiently, ensuring all relevant procurement documentation is maintained.
  • Monitor purchase orders to ensure goods and services are delivered OTIF, liaising with suppliers to resolve any issues or delays.
  • Keep accurate and up-to-date records of purchases, supplier information and procurement documentation.
  • Support the assessment of supplier performance and capabilities, gathering information and feedback to support procurement decisions.
  • Research potential suppliers, products and services to identify cost-saving opportunities and remain informed of market trends.
  • Assist with monitoring stock and inventory levels and coordinate the replenishment of supplies when required.
  • Provide general administrative support to the Procurement team, including arranging meetings, maintaining documentation and preparing reports.
  • Work collaboratively with Finance and other departments to ensure purchasing processes operate smoothly and efficiently.

Skills & Experience

The successful candidate should demonstrate:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to communicate professionally with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Good attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining accurate records.
  • Good IT skills, particularly using Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Previous experience within procurement, purchasing or an administrative environment would be advantageous but is not essential.
  • Familiarity with procurement software would be beneficial.
  • An interest in using technology and AI to support efficient working practices would also be advantageous.

Qualifications

English and Maths GCSE (or equivalent) at grade C/4 or above. 
 
Working hours 
Monday to Thursday 8am-4pm
Friday 8am-3.30pm
